Description |
Tiletec prepared and over tiled in excess of 5200m2 of the existing tiled floor on both Levels 30 and 40 of Gatwick’s South Terminal International Departure Lounge. The works were carried out during night shifts in a live environment and, in many instances, there were further restrictions imposed due to the airport’s passenger numbers and other operational requirements. The project was full of challenges; not least was programming the areas to ensure that upon completion of a night shift the area completed could either be handed back to the client the following morning, or the area made secure and taken out of operation for a limited period of time. A further significant challenge on the project was working to finished levels imposed by the introduction of new structural expansion joints, when commencing from a slightly undulating existing finish. Working towards the position of such expansion joints (which were to be installed by others) and having to calculate and determine the optimum level that the straight joints would be installed at, led to a high degree of collaboration between ourselves, other sub contract trades and the main contractor. In addition to the challenge of leveling to new structural expansion joints there was also the challenge of ramping tiles down to existing retail, catering and concessionaires units around the perimeter of the IDL. |
